Talk at the conference "Land. Economy. Society. Resources for a Right to Housing"

The conference "Land. Economy. Society. Resources for a Right to Housing" will take place on May 23 and 24, 2019. In forum 2 “Role(s) of the (housing-)economy Part 1: Social housing provision between privatization, financialization and cooperation” I will present first results of my research.

“Cities and regions are confronted with a multitude of housing issues: In growing metropolitan regions and medium-sized cities, rents and land prices are rising steadily. Elsewhere, there is primarily a lack of needs-based living space - and not infrequently despite considerable vacancies. In urban and rural areas, it is becoming increasingly difficult for large parts of the population to find affordable and adequate housing. Appropriate policies and instruments for a socially fair supply of housing would be available. The conference sheds light on three possible fields of intervention as resources for a right to housing: the use of urban land, the housing industry and community housing.

The closing conference of the Junior Researcher Group "Social Housing Provision in Growing Metropolitan Regions", funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation, brings together scientists from planning, urban and housing research as well as practitioners from administration and civil society in order to explore the possibilities of social housing provision in four forums. In a public evening lecture on May 23, 2019, architectural perspectives and approaches to social housing supply will also be opened ”(Schönig/ Vollmer 2019)

Am 23. und 24. Mai 2019 findet die Konferenz "Boden. Wirtschaft. Gesellschaft. Ressourcen für ein Recht auf Wohnen" statt, bei der ich mich im Forum 2 “Rolle(n) der (Wohnungs-)Wirtschaft Teil 1: Soziale Wohnungsversorgung zwischen Privatisierung, Finanzialisierung und Kooperation mit einem Vortrag beteilige.

“Städte und Regionen sind mit einer Vielzahl an Wohnungsfragen konfrontiert: In wachsenden Metropolregionen und Mittelstädten steigen stetig Mieten und Bodenpreise. Andernorts fehlt es vor allem an bedarfsgerechtem Wohnraum – und das nicht selten trotz erheblichen Leerstands. In Stadt und Land wird es für weite Teile der Bevölkerung immer schwieriger bezahlbaren und angemessenen Wohnraum zu finden. Dabei ständen durchaus geeignete Politiken und Instrumente für eine sozial gerechte Wohnraumversorgung zur Verfügung. Die Tagung beleuchtet drei mögliche Interventionsfelder als Ressourcen für ein Recht auf Wohnen: die Nutzung städtischen Bodens, die Wohnungswirtschaft und gemeinschaftlichen Wohnungsbau.

Die Abschlusskonferenz der durch die Hans Böckler Stiftung geförderten Nachwuchsforscherinnengruppe "Soziale Wohnraumversorgung in wachsenden Metropolregionen" bringt Wissenschaftler/innen aus Planungs-, Stadt- und Wohnungsforschung sowie Praktiker/innen aus Verwaltung und Zivilgesellschaft zusammen, um in vier Foren die Möglichkeiten sozialer Wohnungsversorgung auszuloten. In einem öffentlichen Abendvortrag werden am 23. Mai 2019 zudem architektonische Perspektiven und Ansätze auf soziale Wohnraumversorgung eröffnet” (Schönig/ Vollmer 2019)
